Paper Weaving

 Description: For this activity, we had to write down 3-4 facts we found interesting in the presentation about paper weaving. We picked out two pieces of construction paper one piece for the background and one for the weaving process. For the weaving pieces we picked out three different colors and cut three strips from each color. We then measured one inch from the top of the paper and wrote stop at the top of the page to indicate to stop cutting. After that we drew one inch lines going up and down the paper. Those lines were then cut up until the word stop. We then labeled each strip 1,2,1,2 after we labeled we lifted all the strips with 1 and slide a strip underneath and glued it down. Then we lifted the strips labeled 2 laying a different colored strip and gluing it down. We repeated this process until the weaving was done. Once, we were finished we glued our weaving piece onto the piece of construction paper and wrote down our facts on our construction paper as well. 

Extension Activity: Students could complete another weaving by using different materials. Students could weave using string, fabric, or twigs. Using mixed media students could make things like bracelets or a necklace!

 Description: For this project we covered all the elements and principals of art. We had to take 12 different pictures to show each element and principal. This project required us to get up and move around to find the elements and principals to capture. At the end of this project we made a presentation of all of our pictures and presented them to our class.  Extension Activity: An extension activity could be making a collage that includes all different textures. Students would bring different objects from home that represents texture. The objects would have to be small. Vincent van Gogh: Starry Night

Description: For this project, we created a Vincent van Gogh scene using tissue paper, construction paper, oil pastels, and mod podge. I used a yellow, red, and orange background to represent a warm climate. For my front scene I chose to do mountains. For the sky I drew lines to show a slight windy breeze and I also drew stars with white oil pastel.  Extension Activity: An extension activity would be to have students solve math facts and then color the picture of The Starry night to help them memorize their math facts.

Finger-Painting

 Description: For this activity we traced our hand on a white piece of construction paper. We then colored in our hand with a brown crayon. After coloring in our hand, we drew piles on the bottom of the paper for the leaf bushes. After coloring in our hand, we used paint for our finger prints for the leaves. The colors we used were red, yellow, and orange. To get orange we mixed the two colors of red and yellow. After completing the top of the tree, we finger painted leaves falling onto the ground!  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this, would be taking students outside to collect their own leaves! Students could then add the leaves to their painting by pressing or stamping the leaves  to create and see textures that reflect the real world.
