Tic-Tac-Toe Board

Image
Activity: For this activity we started out with a block of clay. We then had to wedge the clay and then roll it out with a rolling pin between two wood pieces. We also did the slapping and throwing method as well to get air bubbles out of the clay. We then got to decide if we wanted our board circular or square. We then drew lines on the board using a wooden pointed stick. After that, we cut out our pieces with the wooden utensil as well. Once the clay was dry, we got to paint our our board. When creating our board the pieces had to relate to some sort of a tradition. I made a pineapple peperoni pizza. In my family, we always make our own personal pizzas when we go camping every summer!  Extension: An extension activity would be having students write and come up with their own story about their life or a time in their life where they attended an exciting event. Students could then make objects out of clay that they wrote about in their story!

Print Making

Image
Description: In this activity we had to create different prints with each print being a different color. For making our prints we used jelly plates, rollers, q-tips, paint, and tensile. After we created each print we had to trace each piece of the iguana on our different prints we created. After tracing all 10 pieces we cut them out and glued them on a piece of construction paper. After gluing the pieces, we had to draw eyes, mouth, and legs onto our iguana. Lastly, we had to write three colors we used and what they represented.  Extension Activity: Students would work with a partner where they would create their own print and then combine both of their prints into one piece of art. Students would use different elements and different print making techniques. Each group would present their artwork and explain how they blended individual ideas into one piece.

Paper Weaving

Image
Description: For this activity, we had to write down 3-4 facts we found interesting in the presentation about paper weaving. We picked out two pieces of construction paper one piece for the background and one for the weaving process. For the weaving pieces we picked out three different colors and cut three strips from each color. We then measured one inch from the top of the paper and wrote stop at the top of the page to indicate to stop cutting. After that we drew one inch lines going up and down the paper. Those lines were then cut up until the word stop. We then labeled each strip 1,2,1,2 after we labeled we lifted all the strips with 1 and slide a strip underneath and glued it down. Then we lifted the strips labeled 2 laying a different colored strip and gluing it down. We repeated this process until the weaving was done. Once, we were finished we glued our weaving piece onto the piece of construction paper and wrote down our facts on our construction paper as well.  Exte...

Monster-Drawing

Image
Description: For this activity we wrote out four characteristics to describe a monster. We then passed our four characteristics to the person next to us. On a white piece of construction paper we drew our monster based off the four characteristics our classmate came up with. We could chose the mood of our monster as well. I chose my monster to be happy so I colored it yellow. For our monster we had to outline it black.  We also had to use three different elements. I added construction paper to the top of my monsters hat, colored with crayon, and outlined my monster with black sharpie. After, completing the drawing we had to come up with a name for our monster along with writing a story telling paragraph about our monster.  Extension Activity: An extension activity would be having students create homes or habitats for their monster. They can draw the environment where their monster would live using different types of materials including objects, fabric, and construction p...

Finger-Painting

Image
Description: For this activity we traced our hand on a white piece of construction paper. We then colored in our hand with a brown crayon. After coloring in our hand, we drew piles on the bottom of the paper for the leaf bushes. After coloring in our hand, we used paint for our finger prints for the leaves. The colors we used were red, yellow, and orange. To get orange we mixed the two colors of red and yellow. After completing the top of the tree, we finger painted leaves falling onto the ground!  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this, would be taking students outside to collect their own leaves! Students could then add the leaves to their painting by pressing or stamping the leaves  to create and see textures that reflect the real world.

Hidden Safari Art

Image
Description: For this activity we picked out our own animal to draw on a white piece of paper. We drew the animal looking at the picture upside down. When drawing the animal we used a light blue colored pencil. After drawing our animal we used warm colors to cover up the animal. I chose to do yellow diamonds, orange stars, orange-red lines, and red spirals. Once, my animal was hidden, we made a pair of glasses using a red film and construction paper to view our animal through the warm colors. Lastly, we wrote on a notecard giving three hint what our animal may be.  Extension Activity: An extension activity would be to learn about all different kinds of animals. Students could complete a matching activity consisting of pictures of animals while matching each animal to where it would live. (savanna, forest, ocean, grassland etc... )

Vincent van Gogh: Starry Night

Image
Description: For this project, we created a Vincent van Gogh scene using tissue paper, construction paper, oil pastels, and mod podge. I used a yellow, red, and orange background to represent a warm climate. For my front scene I chose to do mountains. For the sky I drew lines to show a slight windy breeze and I also drew stars with white oil pastel.  Extension Activity: An extension activity would be to have students solve math facts and then color the picture of The Starry night to help them memorize their math facts.
